What is Menthol?

Menthol which is the main ingredient of peppermint oil is a colorless needle-like crystal with a refreshing aroma of mint.  Menthol is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, ether, chloroform and benzene and slightly soluble in water. The chemical property is relatively stable and it can volatilize with steam.

It is an allowed edible spice in China and can be used as a flavoring agent for toothpaste, perfume, beverages and candy. According to the normal production requirements, generally the dosage is 1100g / kg in chewing gum; 400mg / kg in candy; 130mg / kg in baked goods; 68mg / kg in ice cream; 35mg / kg in soft drinks.
